I think not being taught music has a huge impact on my linguistic “tin ear”. Every school I transferred to had budget cuts and music was the first to go. No causal relationship I hope. Thanks Katy for your comment. I LOVE purple prose m’self.

Interesting observations! I’m glad you are learning to hear the music in words. I’ve loved rhyming, metric poetry since childhood, but I’m also a professional musician, so I naturally hear the music in everything around me. Dickens was my fav author in high school, so my problem in writing is that I tend toward purple prose and have to severely edit myself to keep from sedating the reader. That’s what life is all about, isn’t it? Learning new, improved ways of doing things?

I’m just the opposite of you. I’m a very slow reader. Not in the dysfunctional way. I just take a very long time to read a book. Mainly because I have to wedge it in here and there during my day. So, I tend to have to re-read passages. I think this is affecting my writing style also. I can’t seem to sit very long and write. A few sentences here and a few sentences there. Hard to get a real flow going.

My down fall to reading has been a sad one. I was never one of those people who could sit and read. In school I would make up my book reports so I would not have to read. Reading to me meant missing out on the activities I loved like playing softball or playing outside. So as an adult I can now sit and read and a whole new world has been opened up to me. It makes me sad on how much I have missed out on but the good thing is I can always make up that lost time. Whenever the skies are grey and pouring down rain I pick up a book and make-up some time lost.

I used to be the same way. But not so much any more. My problem is clutter that turns into scenery and I don’t notice it any more. Thanks for the comment Tammy. I’ll get back to blogging soon! Happy New Year!

Um, so not me. When i was a kid i couldn’t have so much as a sock on the floor. Now i’m 39 and can’t find my bedroom floor for clothes. It’s awesome and i love it. But…not a great role model for miniman, sigh…. i’m going to miss my filthy house. ;P
